Enhanced security measures for travel to the United States

On December 28, 2009 Transport Canada put in place enhanced security measures for passengers on flights bound for the United States. Effective immediately, US bound passengers are not allowed to bring carry on bags into the cabin of the aircraft, with some exceptions. Passengers may carry with them the following items: medication or medical devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or consular bags. www.tsa.gov

 

Passports now required for travel to Mexico

This requiremant will take effect on March 1, 2010. As of that date Canadian citizens, including those with dual nationality, will be required to present a valid Canadian passport in order to enter Mexico, Canadians without a valid passport will not be able to travel.

 

Transportation Canada Carry-on Restrictions and Allowances.

  • Passengers are permitted to bring liquids, gels and aerosols through security screening at Canadian airports provided that the items are packaged in containers with a capacity of 100ml/100 grams (3.4oz) or less and that the containers fit comfortably in one clear, closed and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 litre (1 quart). The approximate dimensions of a one litre/quart bag are 15.24cm x 22.86 cm (6in. by 9 in.) or 20 cm by 17.5 cm (8in. by 7in.). One bag per passenger will be permitted. Passengers may bring aboard baby formula, baby food, milk and juice if a child aged two years and under is traveling as well as prescription and essential non-prescription medicines where the name on the medicine matches the guest’s ticket. New Entry Requirements to the United States - travel documentation

Children under the age of 18

  • Effective immediately, All airlines will require that children under the age of 18 carry a letter of consent signed by both parents, the other parent, their legal guardian or custodial parent for each and every trip if they travel with only one parent, unaccompanied, or with other acquaintances. The letter must stipulate the destination and duration of the intended trip.
  • For any destination, children under the age of 18 must carry a consent letter signed by both parents or their legal guardian for each and every trip abroad if they travel with only one parent, unaccompanied, or with other acquaintances.
  • Proof of citizenship requirements for Canadians:Valid passport; or Canadian citizenship card; or Certificate of Indian Status accompanied by government issued photo ID*; or Original birth certificate accompanied by government issued photo ID*
